Ayambil Special – Yellow Moong Dal Dhokla

Yellow moong dal dhokla is very simple to make, healthy, nutritious and easy to digest recipe.

Yields:4 Servings

Total Time:30 Mins


1 cup Yellow moong dal (Soaked for 4 hrs)

1 pinch Asafoetida (Hing)

Salt to taste


Step 1

Wash and soak the dal for 4 hours.

Step 2

Drain the water from the dal, put the dal in a mixer jar along with salt, asafoetida and little water and grind this into a paste.

Step 3

Take the batter in a bowl. Add fruit salt in batter and stir in one direction for approx. 1 minute.

Step 4

Now pour batter immediately into plates and fill it upto 1/2-inch thickness.

Step 5

Place plates in steamer and steam for 10-12 minutes over medium flame.

Step 6

After 10-12 minutes, insert a knife or toothpick into dhokla and check if it comes out clean. If it does, then it is ready otherwise cook 2-3 minutes more.

Step 7

Take out plates from steamer and let them cool for few minutes. Cut dhokla into small squares or triangle pieces using knife.

Step 8

Serve hot
